Thanks Cam for this, and good comments by Craig. Craig sits in on the Upper
Lands Working Group when he is able to and participates valuably. I have sat
in on pretty much every meeting since Spring 2014.
Inasmuch as the political support side is concerned, which he represents, we
also have to understand and accept as a mountain biking community that there
is a whole other operational planning and implementation side of the coin.
If green space is deeded to DWV by BPP, it will be DWV Parks which will manage
it. To plan and build a great integrated DWV mountain biking trail system will
require budgets to support it, and personnel to undertake- and this is true
for any of the DWV Parks priorities!
It comes down to money and it comes down to being a priority too in the
context of all of DWV Parks challenges in managing such a vast area as the
Upper Lands within their finite resources.
So, community, please be cognizant of the lowest common denominator of what
that could represent if there is no money available (and it is easier to
prioritize lower if there is no budget!) Can we rely on just DWV budgets? Can
DWV rely just on outside trail volunteer donations? Would you step up to help
insure a trail system through IMBA sanctioned riding club?
IMO, will need to be a mix of all, but we need to be part of the solution.
To note, the DWV Parks department is undertaking a Trail Review shortly and
moving into 2015.
2016 is when the DWV Trail Master Plan will be kicked off, dealing with
everything trails- Hiking, Biking, Snowshoeing ect…
Search Squamish Trail Master Plan for a good example of what it looks like.
