Many mountain bikers advocate for sustainable trail construction and
maintenance. Also, any activity that brings more individuals in contact with
wilderness areas also spreads awareness, which in turn affects the nature of
human contact with these areas positively. Yes mountain biking can damage
trails, but human contact with these areas is inevitable, and mountain biking
in the long run brings in more individuals willing to find a solution to trail
access and sustainability issues. Some of the most rational and considerate
environmentalists I know are mountain bikers who strive to make the sport less
damaging to wilderness areas by implementing sound trail building practices.
We're not all bad.
