For my final season of college cross country my coach had me riding my road
bike to keep my shins in better shape. I got that bike when I was 16 as a gift
from my uncle, a huge roadie, in order to cross train and get me in better
shape for running. This past season was the first time I seriously rode, and
it wasn't until I got towards the end of the season that I finally realized
that I can actually enjoy road biking, and that feeling of efficiency and
power you get from hammering up a hill. The benefits to running were evident
too, as I was much stronger uphill and had a better kick than before. Now that
the season is over I'm looking to my road bike to get me in shape for a season
of XC racing come May.
