I am building up a new bike and went out of my way to grab a frame that uses
the same wheel size/hub standards/drivetrain for cross compatibility. I don't
really need/want to swap wheels/tires on a regular basis as I find the same
tires are good for at least the whole season [~6 months] if not the whole
year. But it's nice knowing that you can keep your bikes running even if
something critical needs repair.
My oldest bike is in year #9 so I'm also thinking about many years from now I
can cannibalise one bike to keep the other running regardless of what wacky
standards are the flavour of the season.
