Where the Wild Things Play

Video Krystle Wright

It's not just in mountain biking where the question of women in sport is often raised. How to encourage participation, coverage, support, race numbers, etc...these are not unique conversations to the world of two knobby wheels, although you might argue that, collectively, our sport is worse than many at engaging women. Participation at local trailheads here tells me that things are moving in the right direction, but it still feels like a grain of sand in a black diamond-rated hourglass.

Videos like this one from Outdoor Research are a great start. Give it a look, and throw them an online High Five. But maybe also share it. Not just with the girls and women in your life, but also with the boys and men. Because it's important that everyone be aware that girls are out there kicking ass all over the place, and we need to celebrate that. Especially share it with the girls, though. They need female heroes, and this is a great place to start.

Let's hope to see more videos like it. Lest it be forgotten, I'll also post the amazing Juliana Strega launch video below, so you can check that one out, too.

We included this in our article about the Strega launch on June 1 but it deserves inclusion here. Strega is Juliana's new 165mm travel All Mountain BEAST. And, in case it isn't clear, Strega means Witch in Italian. Watch as Anka Martin handles her status as a heretic and dispatches all pursuers.
