WINTER IS COMING
Weekend Warmup #225
My Top 5 Ski Runs of 2023 - GoPro POV [4K] | Abe Kislevitz
Abe is the creative director at GoPro and I recently discovered his YouTube channel. It's a great resource if you need help with setup and other tips to get the most out of your GoPro, but this video was just chock full of great POV ski footage by a mortal (albeit in some world class ski areas like Mammoth during December '22, Baldface Lodge in BC, and Hokkaido and Hakuba in Japan). Lots of unbridled PowJoy - and some pretty tight squeezes between trees.
France to Austria - Ski Touring Across the Swiss Alps | Ryan Colley
Ryan Colley is a Kiwi who decided he wanted to ski from France to Austria (or more specifically, from Chamonix to Ischgl) under only his own power (no lifts, shuttles between towns, etc). Amazingly, he only learned to ski two years before he undertook this trip. Over 26 days he covered 580kms and 38,000m climbed. But more importantly, he made beautiful memories with friends along the way - and captured some great footage to go along with it.
‘PROOF’ a Colby Stevenson Film
This is my 5th season filming backcountry, and first solo project. Every year getting more familiar with the mountains, and changing how it’s possible to approach them. From Utah, to Wyoming, to Alaska, I risked it all for this one. Conditions lined up and allowed us to maximize productivity. A bad crash on Feb 14th (as seen in the final segment) left me with a sprained neck, but luckily recovered after three weeks. My childhood friends, Jack Francis and Justin Mayers, put in 110% effort to capture this cinematic experience.
From Japan to Alaska and beyond... | CAMP BLANK - Full Movie
Camp Blank follows the Blank crew on their final trip of the ski season to the legendary Camp Blank, where they relive their epic adventures across Alaska, Japan, Europe, and Lake Tahoe. From navigating Alaska's rugged terrain to experiencing Japan's deep powder, tackling Europe's good times, and reminiscing about Lake Tahoe's crazy storm cycles, the film captures their exhilarating journeys and celebrates the spirit of skiing and camaraderie.
HALATION | The North Face
Halation features Mitchy Davern, a former competitive snowboarder, and Ben Poechman, an artist who sees snowboarding as an extension of his creativity. In this exploration of snow and self, the film captures their shared pursuit where snowboarding transcends sport. Awarded Best Short Movie, Best Editing and Breakout Snowboarding of the Year – Mitchell Davern at iF3 2024.
Peak Performance | Nuance | Starring Garrett Capel, Adam Kuch, Mark Hendrickson and Leif Wilson
Nuance is a skiing video designed to explore and showcase the small, subtle aspects that exist in the sport of skiing. After facing a difficult period due to a badly broken leg a few winters ago, Peak Performance athlete Garrett Capel decided to look deeper into skiing and focus on the elements that truly make him passionate about being a skier. Separated into two acts, nuance highlights these elements. Starring Leif Wilson, Adam Kuch, Mark Hendrickson and Garrett Capel. Cinematography by Lucas Reid
FIFTY+ A Ski Mountaineer’s Dream Line - Pioneer Peak, AK - Ep. 2
The hunt for Classics continues. After 6 years of following, climbing and skiing 46 of the lines and mountains in the book “The Fifty Classic Ski Descents of North America”, it’s time to pursue a personally inspired and modern list of classics. It’s North facing slope is a continuous 6,500 foot face with no breaks and no flat areas. What was once a test piece of endurance and skill for Alaskan mountaineers, has now become a playground for local ski mountaineers. Joined by Mali Noyes, Logan Logan, and cinematographer Dmitry Surnin, the trio sets out on a picturesque spring day to test their endurance, skills and skiing to determine if the North face of Pioneer Peak, is a classic or not.
SPLIFF | A Video by Dylan Siggers and Liam Morgan
SPLIFF is a ski movie made to make you want to go out and make your own ski movie. No helicopters, no superstars, no epic monologue behind the moments. Just trying to Spread Positive Loving Intimacy, for Friends.
