The State of BMX – Red Bull Dreamline 2014

I posted something on Facebook yesterday regarding Martin Söderström’s invitational jump competition and how it compares to what is happening in BMX. The course was made of wood and as smooth as a basketball court and it seemed to me that the twenty inch crowd would have crushed the course.Events like Rampage or Slopestyle courses that can’t be ridden on hardtails differentiate mountain biking from BMX and keep show how impressive these riders really are. Martin’s cool comp? Not so much.

Apparently the conditions in North Carolina for the finals of 2014 Red Bull Dreamline were less than ideal – but the throwdown was nonetheless pretty amazing. 360 triple whips, backflip double whips, a flip barspin to tailwhip, so many barspins I lost count – some pretty amazing tricks were tossed. But is the gap between two six dirt jumping and twenty shrinking, staying the same or getting bigger?

Are mountain bikers catching up or losing ground to our BMX brethren?
