SRAM Reveals New Motive, Maven Base, DB4, and DB6 Brakes

SRAM releases the Motive series of brakes, along with an affordable Maven Base, and new DB4 and DB8 brakes. The Motive will replace both the Code and the Level series of brakes in SRAM's lineup. Designed to meet the demands of World Cup XC racing and trail riding, think of the Motive and Maven as the current equivalent to the power hierarchy of the Guide and Code of yesteryear. The Maven Base is the most affordable brake in the Maven series, foregoing some of the features of the Maven Bronze, like SwingLink, and sporting dual 18mm pistons. The DB4 and DB6 use the same caliper architecture as the DB8 but with a redesigned lever. Based off a mineral oil design and a left-right specific lever, the DB4 omits MMX compatibility in favour of creating a more budget friendly package. I suspect we will see more of these at the OEM level come next year.

Press Release from SRAM Below:

SRAM Maven Base

SRAM Maven Base

Maven Base’s lever body houses Directlink, which translates rider input for a smooth application of power. And because of a stiff 4-bolt caliper that sheds an incredible amount of heat, that feel remains consistent. And with so much baseline power on hand, there is more range than ever before to tune the ride qualities to exactly how you want with different pad materials, and rotor sizes. Maven Base features a Blasted Black anodized finish, and for ease of customization includes tool-free reach adjust.

  • Four 18mm pistons for extreme-duty power
  • Stiff 4-piston caliper with best heat management and easier bolt access
  • Organic pads come standard for the best modulation and the quietest ride
  • Stealth lever architecture for a sleeker, more modern ride
  • Tool-free lever reach adjust
  • Mineral Oil for low maintenance and performance
  • Designed for use with Maxima Mineral Brake Oil only
  • Blasted Black anodized finish
  • Caliper features Bleeding Edge bleed port for drip-free maintenance.
  • Price: 370 USD (Pair)

SRAM DB4 and DB6

SRAM DB4

The low maintenance Mineral Oil system uses all new lever architecture which features easy adjust-ment access and ergonomic comfort. The right and left specific stealth lever body design brings the hose parallel to the bar, allowing for an organized cockpit that pairs perfectly with mechanical Eagle Transmission.

  • Stealth lever architecture pairs perfectly with mechanical Eagle Transmission shifters
  • Left and right specific levers feature tooled lever reach adjust
  • Split ring clamp
  • Code-like heavy-duty power
  • Uses existing SRAM Large brake pads

Call me jaded, but these releases seem like a whole lot of changes for hardly anything relevant to consumers. The Code was fine and the Motive will replace it while hopefully not being worse. Nothing really new here.
Removal of the Guide and Level from the market seems like a good thing at first to prevent bike brands from cutting corners with the specs. Until i realized that the DB series still allows for corner cutting.

And the sheer number of different versions of the Maven, Motive and DB just seems like unneccessary clutter which only serves to confuse consumers.

SRAM will always be there for corner cutters. How dare you think otherwise, even for a second!

Seems like they are getting out of the DOT fluid for brakes business.

They are only available in the stealth lever architecture design at present.

Cool that SRAM switched to mineral oil, now they just have to eliminate the hose angle pointing back at my junk and rubbing a hole in my carbon bars, all while rattling and driving me crazy..... baby steps SRAM. Baby steps.

The real question is why in God's name did they go back to this design when they'd already fixed the problem on the Maven?

I love how sram supports a cottage industry of fixing/improving on their designs. No clue what that’s going to look like for these but I’m betting it won’t be long!

I thot about but didnt upgrade from DB8 to Maven on the new ride, I would say performance  seems much like  the guides i have been on  so I assume this is SRAM's latest offering at that lower price point, the shop will be bleeding them for the next 2 years so I got no complaints
