PRESS RELEASE

The Spartan 29 has Arrived

Rolling on 29-inch wheels, powered by Split-Pivot credentials, and loaded with 165mm rear and upgraded 170mm travel in the fork, the versatile Spartan brings adept handling and bottomless stoke to the downward slope. Improved suspension dynamics increase lateral stiffness for a cutting-edge climber. And its shortened carbon chainstay brings leaner, meaner Enduro muscle to the trail or track. Additional features include a 38T compatible front ring, 2.5 tire clearance and metric shock. Spartan ’19. Climb on and kill it all.

The new Sparten looks and sounds like an absolute weapon but let’s get serious about sizing for a sec. There is no way someone 198cm tall can comfortably ride a bike with a 639mm TT and 485mm reach! Especially with such a short CS of 432mm. My back aches just reading that and I’m in the middle of the claimed size range for the XL.

It’s time for brands to get real! Stop messing with people’s backs and accept the reality of your sizing. If the range only comfortably fits someone up to 183cm, then so be it. Sure, running it in high fetches a decent reach of 495mm but it’s probably safe to say most will run it in the low setting. Unless they still see a need for 100mm stems or something? In that case I take it all back, including the opening statement.  /Rant

It has my interest , I ride a 29" Django and love it , tried the 2019 Kona 153 cr29 in medium and large . One killer climbing bike , but not as inspiring on the downs . I do agree on the sizing  , the medium felt smaller than my medium 167 Process. My buddy tried the XL he,s currently on the last Kona Process design and it,s longer in the TT than the current model.

Is the alloy frame still made in Canada ?? and I wished they did another color combo for the alloy. I would love a Fox 36/DHX2 coilover set-up.

The Process 153 has a relatively short wheelbase. Gotta look at it in the same league as a Bronson.

Something with a longer wheelbase, like a Ripmo, would feel more confident, despite shorter travel. Heck, you can upsize on it for even more confidence.

1218mm is considered short? Spartan is 1231mm for the Large

Is your idea of long based on wheelbase or roominess?

Oh the Ripmo and Bronson all are within a few mm of the wheelbase of a large Kona (1218mm) .

lrg Ripmo 1220mm

Lrg Bronson 1215mm
