The BC Bike Race kicks off this Sunday, June 29th in North Vancouver. Seven: The BC Bike Race Movie recounts the 2013 edition, tracing several racers throughout the event.
Well that doesn’t leave much doubt about BCBR as the Ultimate Singletrack Experience.

What a fantastic insight into the BCBR, thank you for posting it!
Is there any chance you guys might be able to do a BCBR Bikes feature showing the kinds of bikes people are choosing to do the race on please?
I'm planning on entering the race for 2016 and this would be massively helpful to me…

Just J the type of bike varies on how you want to do the race. Right now if you want to win it is a very light 29R many hard tails and some light 29 flu suspensions. If you want to enjoy it then a race endure bike will be suffice. Just make sure that you have a bike or the skills to make a lighter bike stand up to the abuse a mtb takes over 300km of hard riding. To me the perfect bike for doing as best you can and enjoying the race is a 25-28 pound full suspension, probably 29R with a seat dropper and a few change of tires (bigger for harder stages like north shore and lighter for longer dry days) No matter what bike you bring, you will have a blast. dave norona - on course movie maker

Thank you for your reply, that's great and exactly on par with how I'd target the race, in that I'd want to enjoy it, have a ton of fun and still stay as fresh and as comfortable as I can. I'm not a super light bike kind of guy, weighing over 200 myself, so I know my limits and my reasons for wanting to compete in the race. Ie there not a lot of point in me bringing a super light carbon hard tail!
My Yeti SB95c is coming in at bang on 28 lbs with medium weight tyres, so it looks like the race will suit that type of bike. I also saw a couple of Tracers in the movie which surprised me but it gives me plenty of options. However in 2 years time I will no doubt have a different bike anyway but I'm sure it will be of the same ilk.

We'll see if we can add some perspective at one of the stages, but Dave hit the nail on the head. Also seen in past years: Rigid Fat bikes (a crazy Belgian dude was responsible for that), single speeds, and others that you wouldn't think would be ideal. If I were racing it, about 5″ and a 29er would be the ticket, although I'd happily ride anything under 30 lbs with light wheels and the right rubber. Your SB95 would be perfect.

I figured that the Yeti would be a good bet, it is a great bike for most riding but wanted to make sure, not knowing the terrain.
