Self Filmed: Sun(day) - Modern Winter
Why I have filmed myself riding on a bicycle?
Let’s go back in time a little bit. Fall 2014 Jura, France. I worked at the Kona Bikes office in Geneva and at that time I had a commercial video project of fast riding in wet conditions on my table. I needed some additional sounds, but instead of using stock material I decided to go out riding and capture the sounds in the nature by myself. Next Sunday the weather looked miserable enough to hit the tracks! After finishing the commercial video project I opened a beer and started to play around with my riding footage. That evening ended up with uploading “Sunday Afternoon” to my Vimeo account. My co-workers liked it a lot and couple mtb mags published the clip on their web sites.
One year later I did another one called Sun[day] which ended up to the front page of Pinkbike. Main thing for me was that I got to be outside, riding my bike and play with simple camera gear in the rain. I find it somehow relaxing. After Sun[day] I made a self shot short film called “Project Jura” which to my great surprise won the “Best Film” price at Epic tv/dji’s outdoor drone film festival. Couple years break from self filming and moving back to my home country, Finland. At that time I was really over it on riding bikes or doing anything related to bikes. Beside my daily work with bikes. So I went skateboarding…
2018 riding felt good again and in spring I filmed my third short Sun[day] video. That made me to be back on bike for good. Now I’ve released the last chapter of Sun[day] videos called “Modern Winter”. Inspired by the warm weather in Southern Finland I got out in January and pedalled my bike like a maniac again! All the Sun[day] videos from 2014 to today are done on the same bike, Kona Process 111. Time has come to move on, Sun[day] videos are done for me. Maybe something else next, who knows. Maybe I start shredding and make a “Satur[day]” instead. Hah. Thanks for watching!
