Red Bull Rampage Top 3 Runs and Results 2016

The 2016 Red Bull Rampage presented a lot of changes this year and for the most part things went smoothly. The new venue delivered creative lines and some scary and original riding. There were some disappointments of course, most notably Graham Aggassiz’s scary crash. He gave a shaka to the crowd once he was on his way in a stretcher, and the announcers promised to update us on his condition, but we didn’t hear anything. Twitter was talking about him getting x-rays for a possible broken hip but indicated his head and neck were fine. He was putting together a stellar run but his health is all that is really matter. Heal up soon Aggy!

semenuk

No big deal for Semenuk. It would have been great to see him rip a second run but Brandon never does that unless he needs to better his score. And with the wind blowing you can see why he didn’t drop in.

The run of the day belonged to Semenuk. Lots of style as usual and a flat drop flip that included a bit of a transfer. It was pretty clearly the top run from where we sat.

antoine_bizet

Antoine on his second time around.

Antoine Bizet finished what he started last year by tossing a solid double flip. The rest of his run was worthy as well for a well-deserved second place.

carson_storch

This spin by Carson Storch was huge. He nailed it beautifully twice.

Carson Storch threw the biggest spin of the day and he greased it – twice. It was huge and the landing was steep but he looked like he could do them all day. That capped off his third place run and earned him third place.

connor_macfarlane

Conor Macfarlane stlamming hard.

The other big award for the day was the Kelly McGarry Spirit award which went to Kelly’s countryman Conor Macfarlane. He was battered and bruised from crashes in practice but he still stepped up to do his final run. And then he crashed hard but finished his run. And then it happened all over again in his second run. The man is a warrior.

missing are Cam Zink with a 47.33 and Conor Macfarlane with a 43.33.

The people’s choice award became a bit of a farce when Andreu Lacondeguy was leading, before he had taken his first run. Brandon Semenuk came away with the win and another Polaris to add to his collection.

podium

Without having a second look (which the judges don’t get) I’d say the judges did a solid job. I thought Garrett Buehler’s second run should have scored higher and Sorge might have deserved a few more points – but there were no glaring errors I could see like in years past.

2nd place Antoine Bizet’s incredible double backflip:

Carson Storch’s 3rd place run:

 Long Live Red Bull Rampage!
