Nimby Fifty: This Saturday!
The NIMBY Fifty runs this Saturday in Pemberton, and we’ve got the inside scoop on some race info:
Racers:
Due to a date conflict with the Oregon Enduro Series, several pros are not coming (therefore some extra spaces are still available in the race) and competition for the Red Bull Downtime is wider open (the entire RBDT podium from 2012 will not be there). Plaxton and Pendrel are at World Cups and won’t be coming, but there are some exciting names attending – including Kris Sneddon who will be racing his first NIMBY Fifty and is sure to present a good battle for Neal Kindree along with guys like Kevin Calhoun and Colin Kerr and on the Women’s side Mical Dyck, Brandi Heisterman and Jen Shulz, along with a few other super fast riders, including Micayla Gatto who is rumored to be planning to attend (look out Sylvie Allen!).
Trails:
Sweet new single track has been added to the start loop, eliminating the gravel road descent in it’s entirety. PVTA funded rebuilding a ride-a-round on the trail Rock & Roll which connects Sphyncter and Econoline. So the entire course is fully ridable now if your legs can keep turning the pedals when you hit Mosquito Lake area.
Bonus:
Chromag is sponsoring a hardtail only category for Red Bull Downtime ($250 prize plus immense bragging rights). As well, Oakley has recently come onboard as a sponsor and will be bringing their big truck and trailer which converts into a viewing platform. The Brett Tippie show just got even bigger!
Race day is Saturday, May 25th, 2013 and both the base camp location and race course remain the same. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it…
Pemberton mayor Jordan Sturdy’s farm lies under the shadow of Mount Currie; you couldn’t find a better place to end a race and hang out for the evening. As a bonus, this year you can camp right on site (YES!). Great food, lots of prizes, and definitely beer. Check out Seb Kemp’s solid recap of the 2012 event with great photos from Todd Hellinga HERE, and Connor Macleod’s everywhere-on-the-course recap vid HERE.
Red Bull will once again be supporting a downhill stage of the event – a race within a race. The male and female competitors with the fastest Red Bull Downtime will each win $250. The overall fastest Red Bull Downtime will also win a team entry to Red Bull Divide and Conquer on Vancouver’s North Shore. For more info, check it out.
