MRP Stage Fork – Ramp On The Fly

The MRP Stage Fork has been around since 2014 but it hasn’t yet made much of a mark outside of Colorado. Offered in 27.5″ (140 – 170mm travel) and 29″ (120 – 150mm), this one fork could tackle the needs of many, but it’s clearly aimed at more aggressive riders.

The 29″ version was fitted to a Banshee Prime. 34mm stanchions keep it stiff.

The Stage Fork’s most interesting feature is Ramp Control. Using a 16-click knob, you can adjust the way the shock ramps toward the end of its travel. This adjustment is available on other forks, like the Rock Shox Pike and the Fox 36, but you’ll need to open the fork leg and insert a spacer to reduce the air volume. Being able to move from linear to more progressive as the impacts get burlier could be a huge benefit for riders that encounter varied terrain. MRP tells us this all works independently of sag. In fact they tell us it operates independently of the compression or rebound damping settings.

The compression circuit features a magnetic blow off valve to prevent spiking thus reducing fatigue and improving control. Because each Stage fork is made to order, you can choose from 10 colours to pimp your ride appropriately.

The ramp control valve lets you change the ending stroke (like tokens in a pike) on the fly via the use of a second chamber in the positive air spring. You can also bleed a little air using the small button in the middle of the dial.

The right side of the fork houses the compression valve.

10 different colours are offered, along with decal packs for 2016.

Another interesting feature was the wedge-axle. The wedge on the axle acts like pinch bolts, making sure the axle doesn’t move independently of the lowers.

The axle wedge in the open position…

…and in the closed position. The wedge acts like a pinch bolt on the lowers, keeping things snug.

The Stage fork is built to order in-house in Colorado. MRP plans to make a 15 x 110 boost compatible fork next year, as well as getting Canadian back up from NRG (distribution) and Suspensionwerx (service). MSRP on the Stage fork is $989 USD and can be ordered from MRP’s web site. We hope to test a Stage fork shortly so stay tuned.

Would you like to be able to adjust the end stroke ramp mid ride?

My 2012 Zocchi 44 has external volume adjuster which works pretty good for old tech.
