PRESS RELEASE

Mountain Bike Tourism Symposium Heads to SilverStar Mountain Resort

The Western Canada Mountain Bike Tourism Association (MBTA) is excited to work with SilverStar Mountain Resort, Destination Silver Star, and Tourism Vernon to host the 2022 Mountain Bike Tourism Symposium at Silver Star Mountain Resort on September 14-16. The opening reception will be on September 14th followed by 2 days of informative sessions, group rides, social events, and networking opportunities.

Mountain biking has seen a surge in new riders during the past 2 years of the pandemic as more people look to nature and trails as a favourite way to stay healthy and enjoy time with family and friends. We are seeing riders from both inside and outside of BC travelling to all corners of the province to discover new riding areas which in turn is creating economic opportunities for many communities, according to Martin Littlejohn, Executive Director with the MBTA and the organizer of the three-day symposium.

The theme of the symposium is ‘Partnering for Success’. All mountain biking stakeholders and advocates are invited to attend the symposium to learn and share from their own experiences about what it takes to create a more sustainable and successful mountain bike tourism sector. Attendees include non-profit trail associations, destination marketing organizations, bike industry representatives, event producers, land managers, community and park planners, First Nations representatives and community leaders, professional trail builders, travel media, content creators, educators, and government representatives.

Vernon and SilverStar continue to develop more mountain biking opportunities in the North Okanagan. The SilverStar Bike Park and the North Okanagan Cycling Society (NOCS) are actively involved in the symposium and will be offering delegates a variety of mountain biking experiences while attending the symposium including rides at Predator Ridge, Kalamalka Lake Provincial Park, Sovereign Lake, and the SilverStar Bike Park.

In the weeks ahead more details will be released. In the meantime, please visit www.mtbtourismsymposium.ca to learn more and to register.
