When everyone has a weekend free, there’s just one thing on the menu: road trip! For our pals, a road trip involves our beloved Toyotas of all ages and bikes, of course. With so many trail networks within driving distance, it’s always a challenge to pick a destination. We love to find new places that combine our love of four-wheeling and riding. A sick camping spot doesn’t hurt, either. For this particular trip, we decided to travel to Merritt where grasslands meet ranch lands.

What drew us to Merritt? A quick search on TrailForks presented an extensive bike network filled with blue, black, and double black trails as well as mega-long descents. We also caught wind of some incredible 4x4 routes that looked like they could satisfy our need for exploration.

Breakfast isn’t complete without a quick exploratory rip.

We camped right near the bike trails and did an early morning lap to gain our bearings.

Another pleasant surprise, the annual Merrit Rodeo! We jumped on this event and did it ever add another great element to our trip.

After the rodeo, we traded bucking broncos for a jumping Tacoma.

Our next riding location was Iron Mountain. This zone had everything from old school woodwork to rocks to fast flow. We ended up on quite the epic and got to sample a good chunk of trails.

Faster than you can shower, the weekend was done and we headed back to Whistler. Merritt was a great place to take our trucks and bikes and make great use of both. Our group's consensus: we can’t wait to get back and explore the area some more. Merritt is not far from Vancouver, but most people stop for gas and keep heading deeper in to the interior. Don't overlook Merritt the next time you're planning a road trip!

Looks like Merritt belongs on the list for next year! Bonus points if you make it during the rodeo. Your Toyota Pacific Dealers want to help you get out there by providing one lucky winner with a $1,000 pre-paid Visa gift card.

But that's not all - thanks to MTB BC, the prize pack for this promotion also includes two (2) bike park passes to each of three of the world's best bike parks: Sun Peaks, Silverstar and Big White plus two nights of accommodation at each resort! All you have to do is click here to enter, and we'll pick a winner on October 26th.

*Unfortunately, the prize is only available to residents of BC and the Yukon, but we'll have more subscriber giveaways very soon.

Please enjoy the outdoors responsibly and adhere to all local bylaws including fire bans and other important public alerts.

Iron Mountain riding is excellent fer sure.  Big descents, steeps, fast berms…lots of trees to drink beer under…

You've been telling us for years but we haven't made it happen. It's time.

Also, Iron Mountain has one of the wildest, maybe most difficult, golf courses. In the world.

That's a different Iron Mountain...

You're right! It's been a long time, and a much younger me conflated anything east of Langley as being pretty much in the same zone. Though Mission and Merritt aren't too far apart, so you could still do both things in one day.

I've tested out many of those various features and drinking trees... Can confirm!

The Drinking Tree would be a good name for a pub. Or just the 'room in the back' at the Dumpsters.

That more flow-oriented trail they rode in a lot of the video (off the tower access rode) is closed, because it runs through private property. It was on Trailforks a couple years ago, but it's been taken off for that reason.

Ahh damn really?? Burn and Windy Canyon, I was going to make the drive from Kamloops to ride it before the snow comes, that really sucks

I doubt anyone's going to stop you, but yeah, it's been "shut down".  I rode it a year ago, and parts of it were in pretty crappy shape.

There's a new machine-built section that runs from upper InfoCenter zone that's probably worth checking out.

Interesting! Was in the ‘23 Merritt Crown. Maybe they had special permission?

The XC trails in that area are still good to go. I kinda doubt they tracked down land owners just for a rip down Burn'n'Windy, but I also don't think there are any obvious signs up to indicate it's closed.

[Edit] I understand what you meant now, Burn and Windy was used for the Merritt Crown this year... That is interesting, yeah, I guess they must have been allowed to do that.

Too bad it’s not more open - super cool trail! I was tempted during my “race attempt” to stop for a pic …

Put “race attempt” in quotes because of how comically slow I was. Like glacial pace. Napping sloth kind of speed.

The Iron Mountain riding experience is truly exceptional. With its massive descents, steep trails, and speedy berms, it's a paradise for thrill-seekers. I love it
