Della Creek Freeridin' with IFHT and Friends
Sometimes you need to grab your bike and get away from it all and this year to celebrate the Summer Solstice we did just that. Armed with a couple of new bikes we packed our trucks and headed north to an area called Della Creek, just outside of Lillooet, BC. We had an all star crew along for the ride that consisted of Ollie Jones, Hailey Elise, Andrew Santos and Max Berkowitz. Each of them know their way around a camera and can send it on two wheels.
Before we made it to Della Creek we spotted a small freeride zone off the side of the road and stopped in for a session. It turned out to be the perfect way to break in the new bikes and get comfortable in the air.
After our impromptu session we loaded the bikes back up and drove the final stretch to the top of Della Creek. The rough dirt road up the mountain led us to one of the most picturesque camp spots we’d ever seen. With mountain views in every direction drawing our attention we almost forgot that we also happened to be at the top of an epic five kilometre long trail. Once we snapped back to reality we hopped on our bikes and dropped in for a lap before the sun went down.
The next morning we got up early--it was the Summer Solstice and we wanted to make the most out of the longest day of the year. With bellies full of food and coffee we padded up and dropped in. If you’ve ever ridden Della Creek you’d already know that it’s fast, loose, and as the Lillooet sign says, guaranteed rugged.
From thunderstorms, to high speed crashes and a slashed tire we had our fair share of mishaps. However, in spite of all that our crew wasn’t phased and kept the good times rolling all afternoon.
That night we got back to the campsite still buzzing from the day’s activities. Sitting around the fire we reminisced about all the great moments over the last few days and how true the motto for Lillooet, “Guaranteed Rugged”, really was. In the end Della delivered and it was the perfect way to kick off the summer.
