Capturing The Year

Reading time

As another year draws to a close, it’s time to reflect on the moments that defined it. For me, 2024 was another year of pursuing both bikes and cameras - two things I'm deeply passionate about. I wanted to travel more and that I did, opening my eyes to more sights and people. From early-morning light, to golden-hour magic in the desert, I had the privilege of documenting some incredible athletes, breathtaking landscapes, and unforgettable adventures. Here's not only a bunch of my favourite photos from the past 365 days but also, instances of life.

The year started off in the woods. This image features Ollie Jones and his beloved Toyota Tacoma leaving a campsite in the early hours of January 1st.

In March, I escaped to Oaxaca with Oaxaca Bike Expeditions. The riding was unreal but what stays with me, is the food. I started off as a vegetarian but half-way through the trip, I threw that out the window and do not regret it at all.

Always an absolute pleasure to shoot with the team. This day was super fun with Deniz. The light was also on our side.

I love the contrast in this shot - the soft and the hard. It was from a SRAM Brake Clinic put on by Hilltop at Steed Cycles and the image shows the different SRAM brake pads.

Late spring saw a trip to Croatia with Big Mountain Adventures. We sailed around the Dalmatian Islands, stopping to ride and explore the old towns, beaches, and historical sites.

Another favourite from an NSMB shoot. This one was on the Sunshine Coast where Pete took us on a magical mystery tour which despite being more e-bike friendly, resulted in some great shooting opportunities.

Ollie Jones making the most of last light in Powell River in early summer. We snagged this shot on our way off of the trail. I spotted a sliver of sun as Ollie blasted in front of me. A quick "STOOOPPP" and we worked it until it disappeared.

To date, my favourite project after Crankworx was on the ocean. A boat trip to the Broughton Archipelago boasted more cetacean moments than I've experienced in my entire life. This baby grey whale was happy to work it for the camera.

I went right from the ocean to the mountains in a twelve hour travel day to spend some time with the Mahalo My Dude crew in the Chilcotins. Nothing says summer to me more than this image.

The highlight of my year was definitely shooting the first ever Women's Rampage. I got to go as Georgia Astle's photographer/videographer. Seeing the women thrive in the desert and lay down T to B's was something I'll never forget.

My last trip of the year was back to Oaxaca with Oaxaca Bike Expeditions. This trip was cut short by an unfortunate crash that resulted in breaking my hand, preventing me from riding and shooting any further. The few days I was there was an amazing escape from the pre-winter weather in Whistler.

Lastly, broken hand and all, I got to spend some time before Christmas on the Shore. It was nice to only have to contend with camera settings on this shoot. The trail, forest and rider were firing.

Fabulous collection of pictures.  Thanks.

I want to transition to a more plant-based diet, but there's a really good bbq joint nearby that is making it difficult.
