SRAM XX1: This One Goes to Eleven
Sram announced the XX1 drivetrain back in May but gave very few details as to the specifics of the system. What we knew was it was a purpose-designed 1×11 system with a new horizontal-only derailleur movement. Now we dig in to some details and hear about the development. A 10-42 cassette for a 420% range and a chainring with alternating width teeth designed to better hold the chain. Combine that with a rethought Type 2 clutch derailleur and you’ve got the recipe for a killer 1x system.
11 speed aside, the XX1 system does look like another positive move from an engineering standpoint. People have long been talking about the obsolescence of the front derailleur… will XX1 be the new benchmark?
