Wade’s Wisdom Winner

I’m pretty stoked on the amount of replies we received on this Wade’s Wisdom segment! Probably the most ever. I have to ask – who doesn’t have something that irks them or rubs them the wrong way? I’m willing to bet not very many people. I certainly have a good laugh at the people who take it too seriously, and then post replies from their “first world computers” like these posts:

  Wade’s Peeve: “Don’t make me a goddamn latte when I order a cappuccino, or give me a bigger size thinking you are doing me a favor when you’re out of small cups. All I want is a good strong brew in a small cup; not a coffee flavored milk drink.”

There are many places in the world with much more to be unhappy about than the car in front of you or how someone prepared your fancy coffee.

Please tell me this is an early April fools?

You have so much to be happy about that i’m disappointed that we have to air our grievances. Trails are being built, trails are being reclaimed from disrepair and it’s all happening ‘Monicas’ personal backyard.

Let’s celebrate the positive instead of ragging on others. If you’re mad that someone has stopped in your way on the trail – be glad that the trail was good enough for you to be upset about the pause. And know that it will be good again as soon as you roll on.

Most people seemed to take it with a grain of salt and have a bit of a laugh. If you have a read through the Wisdom replies again, which I urge you to do, you will see that a few topics were popular like: dog shit, late comers to group rides and mis-tuned bikes. Take note readers!

My pet peeve is all these “pro” riders that have been sponsored for years, soaking up all the dollars and deals and making the up and commers and basically depriving new talent of opertunity, on the basis of experience. How do you get experience, if you don’t get the chance. The turn over in this industry is bullshit. The biggest waste of money is this one guy who rides for rotwilde bike and another one that rides for ibis. Just using my right to free speech, but I know there are chicken shits out there that wont like this or let it be read. Oh well.

I really enjoy what this guy has to say. Obviously he is a self-righteous, self-entitled, hard-done-by whiner. He has no idea what that Rotwild guy and Ibis guy have done to get into the positions they are now. Personally, I didn’t make a cent from mountain biking until I was 25 years old. I had numerous “real jobs” before “soaking up all the dollars and deals”. Kids now are getting paid at 16-17 years old without even knowing what work is. The bottom line is this: if you are talented enough to get sponsored, then you probably will. This guy must think that the people paying “these ‘pro’ riders that have been sponsored for years” must have their heads up their asses, the opposite is true. When money is tight, ie: right now in a recession, it’s the fodder that gets cut.

My favourite pet peeve is that my wife never screws on the lids for products like ketchup, salsa, pasta sauce, etc. before putting them in the fridge… along comes slow thinking me, take said product out of fridge, shake to mix well and voila, the whole kitchen is now covered in said product… this one kills me.

Oh yeah GladePlayboy, this one gets me too! My wife is guilty. Not only jars and bottles, but wrapping up the cheese or twist tying the bread properly!! But like the Master Plan Dan says below, we need just to let it go man and live a more stress free life.

I have many but the one that seems to be getting my goat of late is people texting while walking. They then expect you to get out of the way as they barge their way down the street, talk about self absorbed. I honestly don’t know how more people don’t get run over those days. Casey Neistat video on vimeo does a much better job of highlighting this than I could ever do.

Definitely one of my peeves as well. Another peeve of mine related to the same thing: People who are running, or walking for that matter, on the sidewalk and then turn quickly into a crosswalk as you are driving along. They then give you the death stare as you drive by. Am I supposed to anticipate what the hell they are going to do? What happened to the “stop and look” rule at crosswalks. Now add a texting running fool to that situation? = dead pedestrian.

My pet peeve is not what other people do, but how I used to let uncontrollable things upset me. I used to care way too much about everything. American politics, world issues that my actions have no bearing on, what other people were doing, what other people were riding, new products, etc.

I vowed last year to work on that. To get to a point in my life that things that I have no control over don’t affect me. I am almost there. Still find some days where I slip back.

But when you give that all up, you start to realize how much of your time is wasted on letting stuff bother you.

Just let it pass and you will be a much happier person for it.

Thanks for the introspection the Master Plan Dan. We could all learn a little from this I’m sure. But I think as humans in a society, we cannot be totally complacent, especially in situations that affect many. I see this world becoming too politically correct, too accommodating, and catering too much to mediocrity; not good for the future.

My pet peeve is the moment after I hit a young tree following a recent rain or snowfall. The tree dumps everything from it’s branches, which is especially inconvenient since hitting the tree means I’m likely laying in a crumpled heap below it.

I’m also not a fan of low hanging branches that get lower in the same conditions. They always give me the worst kind of surprise: a wet slap to the face.

Cheez1ts, you are so right, that totally sucks! You are probably already cold and not feeling your hands then, bam, catch a tree with your bars and get wet snow down the back of your neck and jacket…not pleasant!

Up there for sure on the peeve meter.

too big of an issue to even be numbered! racism!!! i don’t care what colour you are, and you shouldn’t care what colour i am!!!

1) arrogant people who bodyslam you, dont say sorry, and walk away like nothing happened!! The worst part is that they know what happened!!!

2) when you order something at a fastfood place or restaurant, and they get the order mixed up.

3) when waiting in line for the bus and the person takes forever to pay the fare.

4) ricer hondas with fart cans and douche bag drivers think they’re faster than you; even though there not and you beat them to the next intersection while keeping the speed limit!!!!!

5) people walking in the middle of a sidewalk and are really slow and you’re on your bike and they ignore you when you say politely “excuse me, please”!!

6) When people think bikers can’t afford cars

7) my friend Jon doesn’t stop talking during calculus!!

8) people think they know more about anything and everything than you do and make up a BS story which condradicts everything they just said. AKA wannabe Know-It-Alls.

9) fussy customers who blame you for their wrong doing

10) people that thinkg there is only one certain brand that exists and no other brand is remotely close to it.

11) kids that think your bike sucks when they have some canadian tire bike with “zoom” forks and incredible disk brakes.

12) people on forums who cannot spell to save their life!

13) i have no problem with dogs on bike trails, infact, i love dogs (have one myself) but when the ignorant owners don’t bother picking the poo up, it bugs a lot of people, especially at the trail heads that have bag dispensers for dog poo!!!!

14) people that think all bikes should come with a kickstand and bottleholder!!

15) people who own big SUVs and trucks own the road. And the people driving them can barely see over the steering wheel.

16) people that hit your parked car in a parking lot, and have no care for you and run away!!

17) when you’re waiting at a crosswalk at an intersection and the person trying to turn right at nearly runs you over.

18) dumb kids who think its “cool” to throw snowballs at cars during winter.

19) people who force you to do drugs!

20) people (males usually) who think that a few months in a gym “working out” or “getting jacked” makes them exponentially better than you.

21) people like me who go on total rants like this to vent–lol 🙂
