Top 3 Edits #3: Paul Stevens

I am sure I am not the only self confessed bicycle addict who trawls the net for web videos whenever I find myself with a spare moment at the computer. The constant stream of visual delights emerging from the internet means that it would be enough of a struggle to pick my favourite three from this week! When faced with the challenge of picking my favourite three of all time, I didn’t know where to start! There are so many that I have probably looked over while thinking about this, but the following three are definite stand-outs for me.

I picked this video because it had a huge impact on me as soon as I saw it. The cinematography and editing are on another level, and the theme is awesome. Every time I watch this somehow it still sends shivers down my spine. I love how they put this together, and couldn’t wait for the movie as soon as I watched this. (It didn’t disappoint!)

The actual editing and filming in this video is not really anything spectacular. But the surfing is ridiculous! I think this made pretty much everyone who watched it stop and think “holy shit, what just happened?” which was obviously the aim. I also picked this edit because it shows the immense power of the internet and web edits. The Innersection contest and this edit made previously unknown Hawaiian surfer Matt Meola $100,000 richer, and led to many sponsorship deals, lighting up his pro surfing career.

Who doesn’t remember this? The moment that trials riding actually became cool, and Danny Macaskill became an overnight sensation. In the same style as Matt Meola, this video changed Danny’s life through the power of the internet. One of the most viewed youtube videos of all time, I knew this one had gone viral when my Mum sent me the link!
