Silver Star Opening June 24th

June 18, 2010 – With less than six days to the start of the mountain bike season at Silver Star, the resort is getting a big lift from local freestyle motocross rider Reagan Sieg. The aerial specialist will be part of the resort’s opening weekend festivities Sunday, June 27, jumping in the village Sunday afternoon.

“It’s quite a sight to see,” says Ian Galbraith, summer operations manager. “We’re excited to see Reagan perform in the heart of the village. I think spectators are in for a big treat.” The event is free and takes place at noon, 2 p.m. and again at 4 p.m. Seig will also be on hand to sign autographs.

Families can also take advantage of free Summit chairlift rides for kids Sunday, June 27. All kids 12 and under can ride the chairlift when accompanied by an adult purchasing a regularly priced ticket.
Mountain bikers can get their first crack at the Bike Park Thursday, June 24 starting at 10 a.m. Last ride is 5:15 and the park closes daily at 5:30 p.m. Silver Star Bike Park is partnered with Norco for the 2010 season, featuring the A-Line, Shore 3, Fluid 3, and the Jammer for kids. The resort is also pre-selling it’s 2010 rental fleet. Anyone interested can put down a 15% deposit to hold a bike.
After the first two days of riding, drop by The Saloon for $2 burgers on the deck. The special runs from 3 to 6 p.m.

Opening day also marks the start of the third edition of the Dakine Photo Challenge. The contest is free to enter and runs throughout the season, with lots a great prizing. Smith Optics is a new partner to the contest.

After your full day of riding Saturday, June 26, make your way to The Saloon as Silver Star presents a free showing of Follow Me, an Anthill Films project. The mountain bike movie was shot in part at the resort. There will be free appies, drink specials and prizes on hand.

“We’ve got 79 days of riding in front of us. I can’t wait for it to start,” says Galbraith.
