Adventure Filled Summer Weekend!

SATURDAY

The long weekend started off with my alarm ringing at 7 AM. Alan Hepburn, Aaron Larock (What’s Next Filmer/Editor/Producer) and myself decided to head up to Mt. Washington in Comox Valley. The plan was to enjoy the hill for the day, then take the evening to finish filming for my “what’s next?” section.  We ended up teaming up with Strahan Loken, and Ken Perras to make sure we had a good crew and lessen our environmental foot print by saving some gas!

I’d like to compliment the trail crew on how well they’ve listened and produced some amazing trails that riders want. They are really taking pride in the condition of the mountain and working overtime so you can enjoy a wide variety of diverse trails. We started off the day by warming up on Time Warp. It’s one of the newest trails on the lower mountain, which is full of bowled corners, jumps, scrubs, and some really cool wood features.  We followed that run by switching it up to some technical stuff on a trail called Big Brother, then transferred over to Back In Black. These two trails had some rockier tech sections, mixed with drops, more wood features, and a couple jumps. The day was full of great conditions and we even saw Phil Mowatt from CCN who was helmet caming, and interviewing the racers training for the race down Monster Mile the next day.

The guys up at Mt. Washington were gracious enough to let us use the hill later then their closing time (7 PM) to catch the banger light! Once we had all of our lines picked out we worked on each line until we were happy with the shot. There were a lot of good options so we ended up getting more then we were expecting. Alan even banged off a couple shots for his section.

SUNDAY

Sunday continued with Alan, Aaron and myself. Except this time we headed out to the woods to help Luke Fulton finish off his section for “What’s Next?” I still can’t believe how Aaron has kept so cool under the pressure with the movie premiering so soon. Luke was pinning a sick trail that we worked on this winter and it has become a good place for us to get our shred on that’s not too far away from town.  We banged out some awesome shots and couldn’t be more stoked to help a buddy out accomplish something.

Monday

Monday morning I received a phone call from local photographer Baxter Redfern.  Ryan Berrecloth was in town and they were looking for some spots to shoot for some web-videos for Ryan’s sponsors. Alan and myself met up with them at our ever so popular “jamps” and got our shred on. We ended up getting some rad shots, and it was awesome to hang out with Ryan, A class act guy who is a shredder!

This was my first time spending some serious time on my shiny new P3. I was pretty excited at how fast I got used to this bike. It’s flickable yet very stable in the air. I found the LOW BB to rail the corners and rollers… I’m interested to see how this bike will handle on my backyard Pumptrack.

After the jamps we headed over to Luke’s trails and had a relaxing session while Baxter took some photos.
