The Last Several Days in Words

Thursday: The started out on a negative. I dropped Logan Peat, who has been living with me for the last few months, off at the airport. He had a nasty crash at Whistler the prior weekend that left him with a broken Collar bone, and a large gash in his knee, 4 inches long and deep, to the bone. He flew home, back to Ontario to see his family and to heal up. It’s for the better since his mother will insure that he heals properly. If he stayed here he’d be trying to follow me around and build. This would hinder the healing process. Later in the day I went over to Brookswood Skate Park, which is a 2 minute pedal from my front door. I rode my hard tail for the first time since the Teva Mountain Games. It was weird to say the least. It is a lot more responsive and faster rolling then my SX slope bike. It was one of those rare days were you’re full of energy and on top of your game. I was going higher, faster, and further then I normally would. I was trying to 180 Tail whip to fakie fly out. I got a few in a row and went for another, didn’t work out. I got ejected, landed on my knee. It pretty much instantly started to swell. It did not hurt. I iced it and rubbed some Traumeel on it and it was good to go the next morning. Which was sweet since the last thing I needed was an enflamed knee.

Friday: Rode with Ben Boyko and Dylan Korba. It was a training session for sure. Combo’s and huge tricks went down.

Saturday: Got up early in the morning and went for a short XC ride on my slope bike. It has a full Sram road cassette on it which makes it super fun to bomb down and up some of the local trails around my house. I got home had a quick shower, swapped bikes and was off to meet up with Ben and Dylan in Poco. We were heading up to the Air Dome in Whistler for a Training session. We made good time on the way up and the Dome was empty except for one rider from Oregon. Ben dialled in all his tricks, which he is going to need, as he left for Chatel in France on Sunday. Dylan finally dialled in back flips. Stomped some tail whips and by the end was getting front flips around! I did not really try anything new. I just made sure I had all my tricks on lock down. Both some that I’ve done on dirt and some that have not left the foam pit yet.

Sunday: I headed back up to Whistler to shred some trail with my buddy Matt Hargreaves. It had rained on the way home the day before. We did not leave my house till nearly 11am and got to the mountain at 2pm. This caused the trails to be amazing. The sun was out and the trails had dried up nicely. With extended play in effect I still got in a solid 6 hours of laps.

Monday: After riding hard the last few days, my body was sore and I needed time to rest. Instead of riding I built. Alysha, Matt Hargreaves’ girl friend, lives on a horse ranch. There are lots of open fields. For their anniversary Alysha wanted to build something that Matt could ride and improve on. We came up with the idea of a mulch jump. After a trip to The Home Depot, we got to work. It went together rather quickly. We got the ramp and run in all finished up. We called around to tree service business and found one that was stoked to drop of some mulch when he would be working in the area. Mulch should be there either tomorrow or the next day!

Tuesday: In the morning I went for a long run before the midday heat hit. Rebuilt 3 of my bikes; the Demo 8, SX Trail and P.3. They are all dialled in and running perfect! Later that night the local BMX track was holding one of their weekly races. They have just started a mountain bike category and series you can find more here I had watched a few in the past since friends were racing. This was the first one of the year that I entered and it was a blast!

Wednesday: I spent the day up at Whistler. For a holiday there were very few people there. The lift lines were non-existent. The trails were getting a little dusty on the lower mountain. The trails up on Garbo were in perfect conditions! All the mud that was up there was now gone. The ground was still moist and tacky. We got up there for first chair up. Pretty much rode nonstop till about 4pm. With 13 runs in the bag, Chris, my buddy from Langley, and I called it quits and headed home.

Thursday: I took the day off. Worked on my bikes. Went to the beach. Did a tonne of other things that I needed to get done.

Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday: Were all filled with riding! I rode Whistler, the foam pit and did some jumping.

Now I’m off to Creston for the Goat Style Slope Style. More on that when I get back!
