Weir Wins Downieville Classic
Mark Weir & Team WTB dominate the Classic for the 7th year!

Team WTB scored a clean sweep of wins in the Downieville Classic, July 14-15, 2007. When the dust finally settled, the team had clenched victory in each and every one of the weekend's elite races.

In Saturday's XC race, Jason Moeschler stormed to the finish with a new course record. He scorched the rugged, 28-mile point-to-point course in 1:53 minutes, seven minutes faster than the previous record. Mark Weir crossed the line in second place, just two minutes back, also crushing the previous record. WTB-sponsored racer Rachel Lloyd (PROMAN Women's Cycling Team) annihilated the elite women's field with a time of 2:14.

Sunday's DH race played out in similar fashion, with WTB teammates Weir and Moeschler switching podium spots. Weir slayed an all-star field of downhillers (including top world cup pros Jurgen Beneke, Nathan Rennie and Eric Carter), winning the 17-mile downhill race in 46:14. Moeschler finished in second place, hot on Weir's heels, just 37 seconds back. Nathan Riddle, another Team WTB athlete, finished in third place, 55 seconds after Weir's time. Rachel Lloyd repeated her XC performance, winning the elite women's downhill in 53:01.

What really separates the Downieville Classic apart is the All Mountain Pro class, where all pro downhillers are required to race the both the XC and DH on the same bike and the lowest combined time wins. Moeschler and Lloyd easily earned the All Mountain Pro titles.

"In the cross country, I had one of those days that most people dream of having on their bike," Moeschler stated. "I felt like I could do no wrong. I also felt very good in the downhill race, but my bro Weir worked his magic once again, which I am very happy about!"

This year's win was Weir's seventh Downieville downhill victory. "I love when a plan comes together," Weir stated. "It was nice seeing so many new faces with the big corporations sending in their big guns…but their bark was much worse than their bite."

WTB has sponsored the Downieville Classic since the event's inception. "Downieville perfectly represents our company's view of what mountain biking is all about," stated Dain Zaffke, WTB's marketing coordinator. "We only wish there were more events like it."
