Since 2009, the Fromme Cup has been lusted after by participants of Wade’s Excellent Adventure. Historically a day of fun and silliness, Wade’s Excellent Adventure took a break in 2013. Making its return this year, the Adventure also served as the North Vancouver stop in the Sea to Sky Enduro Series. That meant there was more of a serious component to it – but it’s still Wade’s, so some surprises were in store.
The Fromme Cup. Waiting at the start since the beginning of the race, He/She-Who-Has-The-Most-Fun would probably end up taking it home.
Riders lined up to receive their timing badges, as they connected with friends both old and new.
Gotta get that crucial nature shot in while waiting for the race to start.
Rocky Mountain Fro-rider Tippie offering snacks to anyone who answered his trivial trivia questions correctly.
Margus Riga handles the baconating duties pre-race.
Wade explains the course outlines and some of the fun features – wait, did he just say ice cream truck?
Van-Tan Club members part the bikers like the Red Sea.
And so it begins!
The rider list included 3 Olympians (Andreas Hestler, Chris Robanske and Darren Gardener), and 1 Brolympian (Andrew Shandro). Canadian Olympic Snowboarder (and boyfriend of World Cup Downhill racer Micayla Gatto) Chris Robanske throws the horns, ready to rip apart a (Floppy) bunny
Dre Hestler with that Olympic determination…
Floppy Bunny was one of the new-school trails that Wade added to the course.
2014 Brolympic Champion Andrew Shandro coming in hot. You know the goggles means 10% boost in schralpability.
Choose your own adventure.
Connor Macleod got around the course to film on his new 650B BK Custom hardtail. That bike is a thing of beauty.
Riders who were racing blind had a hard time telling if this was a drop or if it was roll-able.
NSMB Team rider Paul Stevens showed up to race, and placed 8th in the Pro Men’s category. Even more impressive since he had hardly ridden any of the sections before.
Much speed.
Pete Roggeman race-testing the new Santa Cruz Nomad. Pete wound up going off course on Stage 3, and in true NSMB.com tradition (at least for Wade’s Excellent Adventure) ended up with a DNF.
Roller Coasting.
Waiting to beep in and start the stage.
Through the liaison.
Reminds me of World Cup Downhill pans.
Pete had a short date with a rock on Stage 1… It didn’t end well.
nsmba President Vince Béasse hovering above the trail.
I tried recreating Morgan’s iconic Expresso photo from memory, with a rider in it. I had the wrong angle… (Don’t sue me Morgan!)
More Expresso-ing.
Max Berkowitz borrowed his dad’s bike for the race after the bushings on his own ovalized last week. Max went on to claim 4th in the Open Men’s category.
Wade headed down Expresso to personally oversee things at the Ice Cream truck located at the Dempsey trailhead.
Showing some steeze for the cameraman.
I went full-Margus and put on my tree spurs for this shot… I wish.
Georgia Astle maneuvering through Expresso. Georgia went on to win the Junior Girls class.
Rocky Mountain and SRAM tape lined the course.
Leanne Tompkins through the corner. Leanne went on to snatch a 3rd in Open Women.
The real winners are the ones having the most fun.
Margus Riga crushing the steeze game…with his camera bag on him.
Brett Tippie brought out his lights for the Expresso stage… Perhaps his espresso was too dark for him?
And that’s a wrap for this year’s edition of Wade’s Excellent Adventure. The next stop in the Sea to Sky Enduro Series will be on June 28 in Whistler.
