Rampage Gets STEEP!

VIRGIN, Utah — There are many elements to a great Red Bull Rampage performance, but the oldest and highest-scoring is still how steep and gnarly the rider’s line is. In the lead-up to Rampage’s 10th edition, many athletes are finding ways to tap into those exposed, steep faces of the mountain.

The most important part of Rampage is how rowdy and raw your line can be up top.

Canadian James Doerfling has competed in Rampage since 2008, and gained a name for himself by digging raw, rudimentary lines and then ripping them at speed. And over the past three days at the venue, Doerfling and his team have been working on a big one. Featuring a terrifying rollover into a massive drop, Doerfling’s line is the definition of steep.

“I love riding steep, nasty chute lines and I wanted to bring that here,” he says in the video above. “I want to get a crowd-pleaser into my run.”

Official Rampage build team member Adam Billinghurst belives it’s hard to show people at home just how scary it gets at Rampage. “You’ll never get an idea of how steep and exposed it is here without going to the top,” he says. “It’s something I’d never ride my bike down.”

2010 Rampage champion Cam Zink, known for some of the event’s biggest moments, has picked his lines on a solid foundation of steep and gnarly since day one. “The most important part of Rampage is how rowdy and raw your line can be up top,” he points out.

This is going to be amazing…

Seems like its gonna be a crazy good 10th year, these lines would've been lethal a few years ago. Props to the diggers, the barking mad athletes, and OMFG James Doerfling!!
