Here’s a chance for you to help shape the future of local bike parks. They
City of Surrey Parks Department is well aware that non-traditional biking is growing
rapidly and will continue to do so for many years to come. As a result they are
planning to expand bike park facilities throughout the city. A consultant team
of riders, designers and planners have prepared a draft strategy with conceptual
designs and we are ready for your input. To celebrate the Surrey’s interest
in biking and to get your feedback we are holding a bike event that will feature
Darren Butler as the event MC, a demo from by Endless Biking, a trials demo from
Chris Jenkins and friends, a dirt jump clinic from a local Surrey ripper, music,
free food and a host of interesting avenues for you to provide feedback on our
draft strategy. Check out the attached flyer and the details for times and location.
Come on out and help shape your future!

Summary:
The City of Surrey’s Parks, Recreation, and Culture Department is experiencing
demands for nontraditional bicycle recreation facilities - including off-road
mountain biking (cross-country, freeriding, skills, dirt jumping, etc.) and BMX
riding (urban riding, dirt jumping and racing). A draft
strategy has recently been developed that provides guidelines for the provision
of new facilities and
the upgrading of existing facilities in the short-, medium- and long-terms.
The Surrey Bike Parks Review will provide a forum for riding and non-riding stakeholders
to provide input on the various sites and facilities identified in the strategy.
Unique and fun approaches to public consultation will be offered including: a
video speaker’s corner, a graffiti wall, a modeling station, a group feedback
table, and interactive surveys. The event will also provide food, music, videos,
and workshops and exhibitions provided by some of the Lower Mainland’s best
trials and dirt-jumping riders.
For those unable to attend the Saturday event, a second traditional ‘Open
House’ will be provided
at the Guildford Community Centre on Wednesday October 4, from 4:00 – 8:00
PM. The Guildford
Community Centre is located at 15105 105th Avenue in Surrey.
