Aaron Gwin – Sponsors Leaked

Earlier we titled this as “It’s Official” but perhaps that was a mistranslation. Aaron Gwin has suggested the world should relax and that the official announcement is to come. He didn’t however say that any of this was inaccurate – which likely means the broad strokes are correct.

The German publication Freeride is reporting the worst kept secret in mountain biking; Aaron Gwin will be riding YT Industries bikes for the 2016 World Cup DH season. YT has joined forces with KTM and Audi, and Gwin’s existing sponsor Red Bull to form a Germanic alliance for the American rider.

We know what Aaron will be riding and also what he’ll be driving and doing his moto training on for the foreseeable future.

Here’s some of the test, translated deliciously by Google:

David vs. Goliath: Who would have thought that the Up & Coming label YT would the manufacturer giants Specialized relax from the Frankish Forchheim its fastest horse: Downhill superstar Aaron Gwin of California. The surprising if only because the Forchheimer took gradually a freeride star after another under contract. Meanwhile ride eg Rampage winner Andreu Lacondeguy, FMB World Camp Cam Zink, Allstar Robbie Bourdon, Super Flipper Kelly McGarry, double front flipper Bienve Alba and FMB-Star Yannick Granieri for Young Talent Industries.

Caption by Google translate  and Freeride Magazine: New service vehicle: Aaron Gwin will start with the Tues Carbon at the World Cup, then probably with Fox 40 and new DH damper X2 Fox. But Freeride Test (3/2015) the serial bike developed a little less smoothness and speed potential than the new demo of Specialized.

As the scene asks legitimately as the small German shipper can afford these celebrities and now even comes with the fastest bikers in the world at the World Cup at the start.A co-operation should make it possible.Together with Red Bull, KTM Motorcycles and Audi wants to stem the costs, maximize marketing and heave the support to a not witnessed Nivea YT.

Is Audi’s involvement a good sign for DH racing in particular and mountain biking in general?

Besides going for the German Trifecta I don't see the cross-branding. The least expensive Audi starts at 31,600 CDN and takes off from there. This plus this doesn't compute. You buy the Audi to mount the Thule onto to hold whatever flavour of "prestigious" brand bike you prefer.

Unless the target demographic is silver-foxes going through their mid-life crisis, partnering with Young Talent Industries seems like a mismatch.

Good on Gwin for getting paid!

This stance of yours; it doesn't resemble poo at all. Or maybe it does? But I can't see the yellow slimy turd that wont flush of a comment because, I, myself have become blinded by the massive amount of shit continuously dumped on my lap everyday.
Either or is cool, I guess. Thanks for inspiring a moment of self- actualization. I'ma eat an apple now.

I like crisp, tart apples like Braeburns. Unfortunately, I continue to bite into soft, flavourless apples. I've attempted oranges but they cause my asshole to evacuate itself almost instantaneously upon consumption.

Assuming it is KTM motorcycles as the sponsor, not KTM bicycles.
Is it bizarre that, thought they are separate companies, Gwin would ride YT bikes?
It is analogous to Kawasaki Heavy Industries sponsoring a team on Yamahas. (Honda would work better, but I do believe it is all one company).
Anyway…I think the biggest positive is Audi's involvement. Hopefully, it will begin a trend of bringing in large outside sponsors.

Since the top line on the German article says rumours thicken , I am going with this not being official but at least the yt part is likely true…I can see ktm and Audi getting involved as well…ktm has sponsored plenty of riders in the past..and Audi certainly is looking at peops that buy 10k bikes as potential customers..I sure as hell would love one :)…

yt bikes are the cheapest out there, no where near 10k - looks like a poor match then?

Mtn bikers, especially the gravity ones are cheap AF. Audi purchases take away from Tacoma and flat brim hat money. He is in a multi athlete Audi commercial though. If a rider bought an Audi that would render their tailgate pad useless! And how would people know they mtn biked then?
