999 Steps – Craziest Event Ever
Whose idea was this? Apparently Kelly McGarry’s brakes failed part way down leading him to his massive drop to flat and subsequent launch over the bars.
It doesn’t seem likely this event will be staged for another year – which seems like good news.

It seems some of Red Bull's events come from the heads of marketing folks that don't understand/care about the sports/disciplines involved. That said, I don't see how this was any more/less dangerous than any slopestyle or DH event. Sounds like KM got injured because of equipment failure which could have happened any place.

It's true that equipment can fail anywhere. I can see how this event would easily put too much strain on brakes though. During an average course you're constantly modulating the pressure. This looks like you'd need to be riding the brakes the entire way down.

That is the most stupid event I've ever seen. It is so dangerous that it completely disrespects the riders. You get flown into China to a Red Bull event and see this line: pull out or risk hospital or worse just by getting down this brainless thing.
