Hoots Jay Dreaded Update
A snapshot of a Hoots summer.
Always down for a view
Time for another yearly instalment of the Dreaded update. Just as summer has apparently departed and fall is in full swing the ol’ Dread is still flat out trying to get it all done before snow gets deep.
Chances are good something cool is being built if you see this in your town
This season has several highlights for me but nothing left a mark like the raging forest fires from the Yukon all the way down the western seaboard and stretching out thru Alberta. The sky rained ash, breathing was sometimes tender and of course the devastation of the burn has marked an incredible amount of mother earth – and as fate would have it Hoots was right in the middle of it all building and riding.
Into the fire!
From a riding perspective I got to session and rip the Yukon, Alberta, Wyoming, Idaho, Wisconsin and northern BC and I will have spent only blistering 8 days at home from April to October! Wow! Look out for upcoming episodes of Ride Guide. We filmed in some sick locations like Jasper and Hinton and I am in the process of filming for a Team seggy to be released some time whenever! Norco should also have a few new clips coming up for the 2010 Shore which I have been prototype testing for the 09 season.
Prototype testing at the Krunk (aka Crankworx)
Riding at Crankworx was amazing as always! Super keen riders and super STOKE! Days and evenings are always a blast and it is cool to see how big the event had become. I love hooking up with World Cup riders and being dragged at breathtaking speeds down the mountain while doing everything within my head to not calculate the severity of potential impact. I have learned some great new riding skills this year and am riding at a new level I am so proud of! I can’t wait for next season. Yes!
Make up, anyone got a comb?
Hoots Inc has entered it’s 5th year for professional Trail and Bike/Skills park services and man has it been a Hootenanny of a year! With over 14 projects completed this year, Hoots has over 40 Skills parks, several contests, private projects and 12 trails built completed and in the ground! This year included building in 2 different States, putting in a hiking trail built for Parks Canada, making additions to Skills Parks that were previously constructed by clubs, xc trail (race and casual) design and construction and 10 Skills Parks not including all the advocacy, symposiums and conferences. WOW!

Huge massive and enormous Props go out to my family for supporting and visiting while keeping me sound in every other part of the country than home. My sponsors ROCK! Having the support to ‘rock out’ and not have to compete is soo cool and in every way contributes to every success I am having! Super props to my staff and everyone who is involved with the Hoots movement – your continued loyalty and belief regardless of how ‘wack’ things seem is the underlying success of our company and mission. Tip of the Dreads to all those people who have and are still working to develop parks and trails in their hometown. You are true heroes and your tenacity and drive is underestimated and undervalued. Stay true to the cause. You have the entire riding world on your side! Huge props to all my friends who come out to help build, ride and shred inspiring me to push. Big ups to all my friends who laugh harder and longer than anyone I know, take risks for ‘the moment’ and especially thanks to my friends who offer ‘quiet’ when I am so overwhelmed and stretched that I lose track of how incredible life is!

Hoots…
Has Hoots built in your town? He lives right here in North Van – but we have no pump track. What’s up with that? Roll out your ‘dreaded’ comments here…
And let’s close this out with a ghetto sequence.
