Berrecloth In Munich – VID ADDED

Its been a long 4 days here in Munich and life is good. I’m sippin’ on some bavarian beer enjoying the nice weather that’s finally here. I arrived on Thursday after filming the last of my NWD segment in canada. Jet-lagged and ready to go, I was surprised to find the weather was nothing but rain and wind. Perfect for an outdoor contest right?

At least he said please.

Well the skies cleared enough for the riders to get some practice in on friday morning. I chose to ride my bmx since the bmx qualifiers were first. All the top bmxers were here to throw down for the 20’000 euros purse so it was similar to watching a video game most of the time. The boys were throwing double and triple tailwhips like nobody’s business. It’s been three years since I did a high profile bmx event and I felt a little out of my league. Come finals I was feeling good on the little bike and rode really well. I put together runs consisting of regular 360 turndowns to switch 3 lookbacks and all the other fun stuff in between. I ended up in 5th place, not bad for a freerider I thought. Anywho now it’s big bike time and it’s Sunday morning and the sun is shining and the wind is good and the mtb boys are throwing down – no different than the bmxers.

After finishing 5th in the BMX comp the Claw grabbed his 26″ bike to throw down.

Double whips 3whips all the good stuff was going down in practice and I was struggling a little getting used to riding my big bike in morning but I knew when finals came round I would pull my head out of my ass and get ‘er done like I usually do.

In the finals it was live judging and it was best 2 out of 4 and I had 2 good runs completed and I was sitting in 3rd place on the start ramp. I was the last one left to take Martin Soderstrom out of 1st place if I pulled my run, so the pressure was on.

I was pretty fired up since its been a while where I’ve had the opportunity to beat all the young kids at a dirt jump contest and I have always been a all or nothing rider so instead of trying to get 2nd I went for the win.

The run I had planned in my head was a 360 table off the step down drop superman tailwhip off the first 30 foot double, super indian off the next then 360 transfer from left to right tailwhip then 360 one handed table to switch 3whip.

The crowd was screaming and I rolled in and was pumped on having fun on a bike again. These are my favorite moments in life. I cranked a 360 table off the first drop and went for the super whip and my bike got stuck half way in the middle of a tailwhip and I managed to pull it under me just enough to ballride it out but unfortunately I couldn’t get the next set and my run was done. I ended up with 3rd place in mtb and 5th place in bmx.

Stoked see u all back on my continent

It’s pretty amazing that Darren can still go head to head with the 20″ crowd. Maybe this is his year at Crankworx? Predictions, comments or props here…
